December Update

Wow, it has been a long time since we've posted anything on our blog -- and for that we apologize!  We realize we've been sending out email updates, but it's just not the same.  So much has happened in the past few months and we realize we need to send out an update to everyone and ensure that some of you are still praying before we go any further.  Here are our prayer updates....

Please pray for our family as we are about to enter a season of transitions (yeah...when is our family ever not in a season of transition!).  We are expecting baby #5 in mid-March and we are moving into our new home in Brampton, Ontario, on March 1st.  There was no way around either of these dates, but with God's grace (in answer to your prayers) we will be moved in and somewhat settled before the next little Langley boy arrives.  (Don't worry -- April will not be allowed to lift any boxes!)  Our next house is actually a little smaller than the one we're in right now -- and much older, but it has a big back yard and that has our boys pretty excited!  It is also in a city that is nearly 50 percent South Asian, so that places us closer to our target group.

Please pray for some new ministry opportunities that have opened up for us recently.  Jeremy has been developing a team to start a new church in Brampton and they have been meeting weekly for the past few months to prepare and pray together.  They have also been going door to door meeting people and sharing the Gospel.  This community is perhaps the most South Asian community in the entire Toronto area, with the highest concentration of Hindu and Sikh temples.  There are four Hindu temples along a half-mile stretch of road and no Christian church for two miles in each direction.  The epicenter of this community is the intersection of Ebenezer and The Gore Rd.  Sitting on that intersection is a small chapel (no longer used as a church, but as a community center), and we are hoping to rent it on a weekly basis as a beachhead into that community to do outreach events and missions training.  We dare not proceed with this plan without your commitment to pray for us and this community!  Please encourage your churches/Sunday school classes/etc., to adopt this community and pray for it every week.

The Lord has recently given Jeremy a partner in ministry -- a Pakistani man named Joshua (not his real name, but God will know who you're talking about when you pray for him).  Joshua has been working with Campus Crusade and The Jesus Film ministry for many years, but due to persecution was forced to flee to Canada.  He is a part of this team helping to start the new church we just mentioned, but he also wants to help Jeremy train more missionaries and start many more churches -- not just here in Canada but overseas as well.  Joshua is a zealous evangelist and we are blessed to be able to work alongside him!  Please keep this man of God in your prayers, and pray that his family (wife and three children) will be able to join him here in Canada soon.

Please pray for Jeremy tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 9) and Saturday as he meets with 17 Nepalese men in Oshawa.  These men represent five or six seeds of new Nepalese churches in our area and they desire to affiliate themselves with the Canadian National Baptist Convention.  They also want Jeremy to train them and help them develop new churches.  We are very excited about this opportunity!  We will update you more as we learn more about what's happening.  PLEASE PRAY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY for this meeting, that Jeremy will connect with these guys and something great and Christ-honoring will develop from this meeting.

Pray also for another opportunity Jeremy has been given to help start a new ministry at McMaster University in Hamilton.  We have some good friends, the McGibbon family, who are starting a network of churches in that area and they have invited us to help them get onto that campus to connect with students.  We are excited about this possibility as well, since we have done ministry on that campus in the past.  There are a lot of South Asian students at McMaster, but we will more than likely try to start a ministry that reaches everyone -- not just South Asians, though our hope to start a ministry that especially ministers to international students.  This is still developing, so please pray that we will hear the Lord clearly in this and that doors will open for us on that campus.  Pray that we will begin to connect with students who will help this ministry move to the next level.  Pray also for the McGibbon family (Jason and Kimberly and their four children) as they serve as missionaries in a very challenging community!

Continue to pray for April as she leads the after-school Bible club in our home each Thursday.  We will be moving in less than three months....  Please pray for the salvation of these dear children!  Pray also that we will discover a way to keep this ministry going, even after we leave.  Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel with our neighbors many times during this Christmas season.  Pray especially for Amin and Jabin and their family (Pakistani Muslims) who seem so open to the Gospel.  Pray for Pam and Collin and their family.  Pray also for Pak and his family.  Pray that the Spirit will embolden us to be a light to our neighbors.

Thank you so much for your many prayers!  Please write us in return and let us know how to pray for you!

In His Grip,

The Langley Family
